Avoid this common mistake potters make on Instagram
Let’s face it, it’s hard to stand out as a potter on Instagram. There is a lot of content, and attention is the number one currency for all creators.
When someone views your profile, they have seconds – not minutes – to decide if they want to follow you. Instagram have provided a tool to help you with this, but what I observed is that many potters don’t use it.
So, what is this tool? Pinned posts
Pinned posts allow you to pin up to three posts that viewers will always view when they see your profile. It even comes up when someone hovers over your username on the desktop.
Your first three pinned posts should accomplish three objectives:
- Showcase your identity as a potter – what are the three pieces that best demonstrate your style as potter.
- Zero distraction – let your main asset, your pieces, be the center of attention – and not your background. Here you can see an example of photos with a clean background.
- Consistency – eyes naturally at ease when photos are in harmony with each other – think about how these photos fit together
How to add a pinned post?
On the mobile app, simply click the photo you wish to pin, click the three dots at the top right and select “pin to your profile”
